Alexandra Wagner

ARTIST STATEMENT

Alexandra Wagner's paintings are a study of the transmutation of light and dark, both on the canvas and in the realm of the abstract metaphysical. Her process is a meditation on being in the present moment. Although greatly influenced by human systems of interconnectedness, or lack thereof, Alexandra uses paint and fabrics as a medium to filter through human controversies and the challenges of the balance of life and death. She is drawn to the search for serenity and tranquility within the upheavals of our daily existence. Her higher inspiration is drawn from the vast magic of nature, the beauty and depth of the ocean, and the serenity and warmth of the sun and the beach that allows for quiet contemplation. Natural beach sand is often incorporated into her paintings. As a lover of textiles and the woven surface, she also uses vintage and found fabrics from various cultures into her pieces. By combining the elements of nature, textiles and the fluidity of paint, Alexandra creates a calm within the chaos by intertwining textural beauty, subtle depth, color and balance.

Alexandra received her BFA in 1994. She has almost always lived by the ocean, and has traveled to many parts of the world. She is inspired to live a life filled with creative spirit and a discerning eye. Alexandra considers art to be fundamental for expansion. She has donated art supplies to children in need all over the world as a way to expand this belief and give children the opportunity to experiment with the artistic process.
